The Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel has specific size restrictions for RVs and campervans. With this in mind, if your vehicle is oversized, you’ll need a special escort, so always check before you go.

Parking can be limited in the park, especially during peak season, so it’s best to arrive as early as possible if you want to grab a space and make sure to only use designated parking areas to avoid fines and protect the natural environment.

Zion is in a desert climate, so bring extra water, keep an eye on fuel levels, and be mindful of sudden weather changes. The climate here can change suddenly from blazing sun to flash floods in certain seasons, so always make sure you’re prepared for any eventuality.

Zion operates a mandatory shuttle system in the main canyon during most of the year. This isn’t something to worry about, though, and it’s actually super convenient as you can park your campervan and hop on the shuttle for stress-free access to the park’s most popular hikes and viewpoints.

Less than an hour from Las Vegas, Valley of Fire State Park is one of Nevada’s most popular natural wonders. The park gets its name from its fiery red sandstone formations that glow under the desert sun, and it’s the perfect place to stretch your legs on a short hike. .

It’s not as dramatic as the natural stops on this route, but it’s a practical and comfortable pause point.

This stretch of I-15 is often described as one of the most scenic drives in the American Southwest, and Virgin River Gorge is the kind of place you’ll want to slow down just to take it all in. The combination of dramatic rock walls and sharp bends makes it unforgettable and certainly worth stopping at for some awesome photo opportunities.

• Virgin River Gorge Recreation Area: Right off I-15, this campground is easy to access with a paved road and plenty of space for larger rigs. The sites have picnic tables, shade shelters, and fire pits, along with flush toilets and drinking water. There are no hookups here, but the trade-off is incredible canyon views and a peaceful desert setting that feels worlds away from the freeway.

Before reaching the main entrance to Zion, Kolob Canyons gives you the opportunity to explore a quieter, less crowded park of the park. The cliffs are every bit as stunning as those in the main canyon, but with a more peaceful vibe, and a scenic five-mile drive reveals sweeping views. The shorter hikes here are also ideal if you want to stretch your legs before reaching Zion’s busier trails.
